- Traumatic brain injury (TBI). This includes concussions and more severe injuries.
· Typically, the diagnosis of head injury is based solely on patient’s history and supporting findings in the examination. Until recently, there had not been any objective method of diagnosing head injury or its severity. At VAUC, when the diagnosis of head injury is made, the patient undergoes a special MRI of the brain (DTI MRI) which shows the location and extent of brain cell loss and disruption of its connections to other cells. One of our goals is to provide the necessary environment needed for those cells and connections to regenerate.
- Cognitive therapy for memory dysfunction.
- Meditation for stress management.
- Pain management. Our goal is to avoid opioids, and instead, use multimodality treatment protocol to not only manage the pain but help rebuild function when possible. This list is not all inclusive, but it provides a good overview of our program.
- Physical and occupational therapies for pain and dysfunction.
- Hyperbaric oxygen (HBO) treatment. HBO promotes healing by increasing blood flow and oxygenation throughout the body.
